The Therapies

The therapies I offer are designed to complement, not replace conventional treatment.  If you have a medical condition you should consult your doctor before attending an appointment with me.  You should also be aware that as each person is an individual, I can never guarantee the outcome of any therapy.  However, I do offer therapies that have been linked to relevant medical research.

Auricular Acupuncture (ear acupuncture) - has a number of benefits, including helping those with PTSD. Clients receiving the treatment report stress reduction, improved mental clarity, improved energy, better sleep, fewer headaches, less anxiety and depression, reduced pain and improved general health.
Ear (auricular) acupuncture is based on Acupuncture Theory where a single part (the ear) is used to treat the whole body.  Modern western medicine believes that ear acupuncture works by affecting nerve impulses and the central nervous system - functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appears to support evidence of this.  Auricular acupuncture is a microsystem of acupuncture, a specialised therapy where acupuncture points on the ear are treated using either very fine, single use needles or seeds.

Clinical reflexology - uses the theory that the organs, nerves, glands, tissues and blood vessels are connected to reflex areas or reflex points on the feet and hands.  Through compression techniques and massage with the thumbs and fingers, a direct response can be achieved in the related part of the body.  Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety and tension, improve mood and aid sleep, though some people use it to help them cope with more specific health challenges.  Reflexology is often used alongside conventional care in hospices, hospitals and other healthcare settings, to help support patients with a variety of conditions.

Facial Rejuvenation - Natural facial rejuvenation incorporates Japanese (Anna) and Indian (Ayurvea) face massage, incorporating complementary techniques from acupressure and facial reflexology.  These techniques relieve stress, prevent and reduce facial wrinkles and age spots, as well as having many health benefits.  It is suitable for sinusitis, headache and migraine sufferers, TMJ pain and Bells Palsy, to name but a few.  Facial rejuvenation has been likened to the equivalent of an acupuncture face-lift treatment without the insertion of needles.

Paraffin Wax Treatment - this treatment includes an holistic hand or foot massage that is a gentle, refiner theraputic massage.  A paraffin treatment soothes chronic joint pain and relaxes stiff muscles, and improves blood flow to the treated area.  It increases range of motion for people with arthritis, bursitis and other chronic conditions that cause pain and stiffness.  Paraffin treatments also smooth and soften dry, chapped, rough and scaly skin.  It can be helpful for chronic skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis.  Wax therapy, which uses a bath of molten paraffin wax, is one of the most effective ways of applying heat to improve mobility by warming the connective tissues.  The aim of wax bath and massage are to provide pain relief and comfort, to assist with muscle relaxation and to relieve stiffness and help improve movement.

About Cheryl

My background includes more than 25 years of experience within the NHS. I am a General Nurse working within General Practice, with an up-to-date registration via the Nursing and Midwifery Council and DBS check.

I have specialised in areas of women's health, working within gynaecology, family planng and sexual health. I also have experience in respiratory disease, heart disease, pain, diabetes, weight management, smoking cessation and stress management. My special interest is promoting women's health and wellbeing.

My journey to becoming a complementary therapist stems from my naturally caring nature. Working as a nurse has allowed me to develop my skills in understanding how people deal with illness and the effects of stress on health and wellbeing.

Having successfully completed a Diploma in massage 20 years ago, I have gone on to qualify in Reflexology, Pregnancy Massage and Auricular Acupuncture, which is used for stress, anxiety and addiction.  I am registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapies.

I am very well qualified and able to work with individuals with complex needs.  I am cheerful, friendly, empathetic and kind, and I treat all my clients with care, senstivitly and respect.
