Yoga for Life
Classes begin with a short breathing exercise (pranayama) to focus the intention. After a physical warm-up the asana (posture) practice starts with standing and seated postures - taken at your own pace and all voluntary - and with the use of props. The class continues with a guided meditation and restorative finale (savasana). |
About Shailaja Parthasarathi I am a happy, often smiling, Indian-born woman, who loves yoga. It's been in my life all my life. My father was my first teacher. I'm not some yoga athlete. Not one of the "beautiful people". Not elite. I'm ordinary. Imperfect. And that is just perfect, as yoga has taught me, and can teach you. I love its physical and mental benefits, and it's a privilege to teach and share those with people of all shapes and sizes. The yoga I teach is a gentle, relaxing physical routine, with a gateway into practical day-to-day spirituality if you choose to access that. I was lucky to practice in England, the Netherlands and in Arizona, USA, where I qualified as a teacher. I welcome to my classes anyone who aches, wishes their flexibility was better, or just generally wants to feel more alive and vital, physically and mentally. If you've already practiced yoga, there's a welcome to you. But if you are a complete beginner you will also find a gentle and friendly place to start. I would like to take tis opportunity to thank my many teachers, including Ursula Schoonraad, (the late) Lilian Biggs, Revital Prisler, Kathy tousek, Carlyn Sikes, Tish Hegel, Donna and Jeff Martens. I dedicate my practice to my very first teacher. JN Parthasarathi. |
